Family Photography FAQ
The following are some frequently asked questions about booking family photo shoot with me.
How Much Do Family Photo Sessions Cost?
Sessions start at $600 and include 2 hrs of coverage and all of the photos captured from your session. Your images will be delivered as web optimized files (same files as every image on this page) via google drive after the event.
High resolution files and large format prints can be purchased after your session for an additional fee. For a frame of reference, my average family chooses to spend roughly $2,000 on framed wall prints, albums and high res printing files. If you’re on a budget, you’re always welcome to just stick with the $600 base fee and digital collection.
For detailed sizing and price information for large format prints, albums and high res digital JPEGS, you can find my price menu here. How Do We Color Coordinate Outfits For Family Pictures?
The easiest way to coordinate family outfits is by sticking to just one or two of the following color categories:
• Neutrals: include whites, greys, ivory, beige, soft pastels and other desaturated colors.
• Earth Tones: are saturated colors found in nature like olive green, rust, and mustard, but can also include gem tones like emerald and sapphire.
• Black: stands alone as its own category.
Mixing all three tends to make the photo feel scattered, but combining one with a sprinkle of a second will give you that professionally styled look.
If you’re unsure where to start, choose your photo location first. Once you know this, you can then choose outfits that match the background of your photos.
For example, earth tones tend to pair well with forest settings because forests are full of earth tones. A sprinkle of ruby accents with muted earth tones is a classic pallet to style outfits with greenery.
Beach settings on the other hand classically pair well with ivory, white and beige. Add a dash of earth tones like brown belts, shoes and watch straps for a family photo that looks like it was professionally styled.

Family portrait sessions encompass every stage of the family. Here are some of the sessions I offer as a family photographer:
• Engagement Portraits: The beginning of your story as a family. These sessions are relaxed, romantic, and a great way to celebrate this major life step. I also capture surprise proposals
• Maternity Photos: A beautiful way to honor the transformation your body goes through during pregnancy, and capture the anticipation of what’s to come.
• Newborn Photos: Perfect for documenting the earliest days of life. I can photograph your newborn alone or include the whole family in this special stage.
• Toddler Portraits: Once your child starts walking, we’re in explorer mode. Children’s portraits capture big personalities, growing curiosity, and all the motion that comes with it.
• Mommy and Me: A celebration of connection. These sessions highlight the relationship between mother and child in a beautiful, authentic way.
• Family Portraits: While these can take place at any time of year, for truly breath taking scenery book your Fall family portraits during leaf senescence or early spring when the wild flowers are in full bloom.
• Family Reunion Photos: Large group portraits and candid images that celebrate extended family while you’re all in one place. Perfect for milestone gatherings or unexpected circumstances when everyone joins togeather.Do You Pose Us During The Shoot or Keep it Candid?
Sometimes yes, and sometimes no. Little kids at the crawling stage are generally best captured photojournalisticly. Mature family groups, on the other hand, usually appreciate subtle posing cues so everyone looks good and not awkward.
Other times, I’ll take a hybrid approach I call “plandid” shots where I’ll loosely set your family up, then step back and see what happens with just a few gentle cues. This approach lets me enhance the lighting while still capturing family photos that feel authentic.
