Woodland Star School Portraits

Hi everyone! My name is Jason Guy and I’ll be the photographer capturing everyone’s school portrait this year.

This page contains a short brief about the school portraits so you can know what to expect, and prepare accordingly.

Important Dates

Student Picture Days: October 27th & 28th

Makeup Day & Staff Picture Day: November 5th

Last Day To Order: November 19th

What The Pictures Will Look Like

School portraits will be captured under a “ring light” style on a black background. Portraits will be captured in a headshot style, in landscape orientation from just below the collard bone.

Tips For Better Portraits

Here are a few tips to help staff and students get better portraits.

For People Who Wear Glasses

If you wear glasses, bring frames without lenses or be prepared to have your portraits captured without them.

The light set up we’ll be using will cause distracting reflections even with anti reflective lenses. For this reason it’s strongly recommended to bring frames with the lenses removed or you will be asked to remove them before you’re photographed.

Zenni has affordable frames you can purchase before picture day if you don’t want to / can’t remove the lenses from your regular glasses.

What to Wear

What you choose to wear is entirely up to you, however you should be aware that these portraits will be captured on a black background with heavy light fall off (meaning the lighting will quickly fade to black behind you).

Because of this, solid black shirts may get lost in the background. Therefore, I recommend if you want to wear black, something with a pattern will help separate you from the background more than solid black.

Individual portraits will be cropped in landscape like a headshot so pants and shoes will only be visible in full length class portraits.

Makeup Tips For Staff and Students in Later Grades

If you choose to wear makeup for your photos it’s important to use foundation without SPF as added sun protection in makeup can cause unflattering hot spots (reflections) on the skin under studio lighting.

For best results, use mattifying foundations without SPF or shine control powders instead.
